Alexa, Statistics and how your Userbase affects everything

I have always been very sceptical about Alexa and its Traffic ranks, because when you know a little about statistics, you find out that it is all about the base of data you have. And I couldn’t find out whether Alexa had data that would really represent the worlds internet users, or just a tiny, biased fraction of them. The same goes for Compete.

Now it turns out the scepticism is not a bad thing after all, because the horde of Digg users can do mysterious things (a little old but still hilarous). Peter Norvig has a nice piece about that. And beware now they come in millions.
